[Excerpt from the Joint Meeting of the Election Campaign Committee of the DPK-TCP]
“The upcoming elections will be a venue to choose those who serve the nation instead of those who fight for their own interests.”
□ April 1st, 2020 (Wed.)
□ Venue: Regional Branch Office of the DPK in Gyeonggi Province (conference room at the 3rd floor)
■ Lee Nak-yeon, Chairperson of the Election Campaign Committee
We are holding the first regional meeting of the DPK’s Election Campaign Committee for the 21st National Assembly in Gyeonggi Province. I am glad to have chiefs of regional campaign committees and candidates here. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Choi Pae-Kun and Woo Hee-jong of the Together Citizens’ Party, and Lee Jong-kuk, joint chief of the Election Campaign Committee for taking their time to come and attend this meeting.
Today the status of 52, 516 firefighting workers will be converted to the central government civil servant position from the current local government workers. I am glad to see firefighters’ long-cherished desire finally fulfilled as the result of the Moon Jae-in government’s efforts. I believe that the transition of their status to that of national service employees will considerably contribute to making Korea a much safer country.
The April 15 general elections are only two weeks away. Campaigning for the elections will officially kick off from tomorrow. The ruling DPK will enter the upcoming elections while focusing all our resources on fighting off the coronavirus and relieving the people’s suffering. Even during times of national crisis there is no need to waste time on political strife. Now is the time for lawmakers to pull together and make wise decisions to help the nation out of the crisis. Therefore, in the upcoming general elections, anyone who will work for the nation and its people must be the choices of the voters instead of those who will fight for their own interests. The ruling DPK will do what is needed to fight this on-going national health crisis and lessen public suffering. I sincerely ask my fellow Koreans to lend all the support you can muster to the DPK in the elections.
